letter #7: to the one carrying silent battles
dear you,
not every wound leaves a scar that people can see. some live behind tired eyes that still manage to smile. some hide in the pauses before you answer, in the deep sighs no one notices, in the nights that feel unbearably long, and in the mornings where simply getting out of bed already feels like a victory.
and somehow, you've become so good at pretending that even the people closest to you believe you're okay. you laugh when you're supposed to laugh. you tell everyone you're "fine" because explaining what's really happening inside you feels impossible. you carry conversations while your mind is fighting a war no one knows exists. you comfort other people while quietly wishing someone would notice that you're falling apart too.
it's exhausting, isn't it? to carry so much without saying a word. to keep showing up when every part of you wants to disappear for a while. to feel lonely even in rooms full of people because no one truly sees the weight you've been carrying.
maybe you've convinced yourself that your pain isn't "bad enough." maybe you tell yourself that other people have it worse, so you should just keep going. maybe you've become so used to surviving that you no longer remember what living actually feels like.
but pain is not a competition. you don't have to earn the right to be hurting. you don't have to wait until you're completely broken before admitting that you're tired.
the truth is, you've been carrying things that were never meant to be carried alone. the expectations. the disappointments. the guilt. the fear of letting everyone down. the memories you wish you could forget. the tears you've swallowed because you didn't want to worry anyone. it's okay to admit that they're heavy.
strength was never meant to be pretending nothing hurts. strength is allowing yourself to be honest about the weight you're carrying. strength is choosing to keep going even when your heart feels worn out. strength is surviving days no one else knows were difficult.
if no one has told you this lately, let me be the one to say it, i'm proud of you. not because you've hidden your pain so well, but because despite everything you've been carrying, you're still here. that may not feel like enough to you. but it is.
and if today all you could do was breathe, then let that be enough. one day, i hope you find people who don't just ask, "are you okay?" but stay long enough to hear the honest answer. i hope you find a place where you don't have to perform strength just to be accepted. i hope you learn that you don't have to carry every burden by yourself.
until then, please remember this:
the battles no one sees are still real. your pain is still valid. your heart deserves rest just as much as anyone else's. and no matter how invisible your struggle feels, you are not invisible.
you are seen. you are deeply loved. and you do not have to fight every battle alone. omki? mwa
with love,
