letter #5: to the one who is afraid to start over

dear you,

the hardest part about starting over isn't taking the first step. it's accepting that the life you imagined will never happen the way you hoped it would. it's mourning a future that only existed in your heart, while trying to find the strength to believe that another one is still waiting for you.

and maybe you're holding onto people who have already let go of you. maybe you're staying in places that no longer feel like home because the thought of beginning again is far more frightening than remaining where you are. maybe you've convinced yourself that starting over means everything you've been through was for nothing.

but it wasn't.

i know how terrifying it is to let go of what you've grown familiar with. even pain can become a place we learn to call home. we stay because it's what we know. because at least the hurt is predictable. because the unknown feels like walking into complete darkness without knowing if you'll ever find the light again.

starting over asks you to leave behind not only people, but also dreams, routines, versions of yourself, and futures you once believed would happen. and grieving those things is okay. you don't have to pretend they didn't matter just because they're over. but please don't mistake the end of a chapter for the end of your story.

you have survived every version of yourself that thought they never would. the younger you faced days they believed would break them, yet somehow they kept going. and now, here you are. still breathing. still hoping, even if only a little.

starting over doesn't erase the life you've lived. it carries every lesson, every scar, every memory into the person you're becoming. nothing you've been through is wasted. every heartbreak taught you what love should never feel like. every failure showed you where growth begins. every goodbye made room for a hello you haven't met yet. i know you're afraid that what comes next won't be as beautiful as what you've lost.

but what if it becomes even better? what if this ending is quietly making space for the life you've been praying for without even realizing it?

you don't have to have everything figured out today. you don't need to know every step before taking the first one. courage has never been the absence of fear, it has always been choosing to move forward despite it.

so if today all you can do is take one small step, let that be enough. close the door that no longer opens for you. release the hands that no longer choose yours. thank the chapter for everything it taught you, then allow yourself to turn the page.

because one day you'll look back at this moment, not as the day everything fell apart, but as the day everything quietly began.

and when that day comes, i hope you'll realize this: sometimes the most beautiful parts of our lives only begin after we find the courage to start over.

with love,
🐰🤍
