Chapter 4

Layering Colors of Desire

Lorenzo had chosen Le Comptoir du Relais, a quaint bistro nestled between cobblestone streets. The warm glow of candlelight danced on Cael's face as they shared a bottle of Bordeaux, the clink of glasses echoing the promises hidden in their laughter.

"You know," Lorenzo began, leaning back in his chair, "I've been wondering about something."

"What is it?" Cael asked, swirling the wine in his glass.

"Why haven't you pursued art yourself? You have such an eye for it, such passion."

Cael looked down at his hands, his fingers tracing the pattern on the tablecloth. "I...I started once. Drawings, mainly. But I lost my inspiration after my parents' divorce. It hurt too much to create something beautiful, only to have it torn apart."

Lorenzo reached across the table, taking Cael's hand in his. "I'm sorry, Cael. But art doesn't have to be about pain. It can be about healing, too."

Cael looked up, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I'm beginning to see that."
