Chapter 1

The Canvas of Uncertainty

In the quiet heart of Paris, Lorenzo DeBeck's art gallery buzzed with life on a Tuesday morning. The sun danced on the polished parquet floors, and the air hummed with the soft chatter of patrons admiring the collections. Lorenzo was at the counter, his fingers drumming impatiently on the polished wood as he awaited the latest delivery from the framers.

"Bonjour, Monsieur DeBeck," trilled a voice from the entrance. In stepped Cael Berne, his cheeks flushed from the morning's walk, carrying a box twice his size. "I found them on my way in."

Lorenzo's eyes softened. "Cael, you shouldn't have. But thank you. I appreciate your thoughtfulness." He took the box, their hands brushing briefly. Cael's cheeks glowed brighter, and Lorenzo smiled, the tension in his shoulders melting away.

"Have you had breakfast yet?" Lorenzo asked, gesturing towards the box. "We could unwrap these together at the café around the corner."

Cael's face lit up. "I'd like that," he said, tucking a strand of chestnut hair behind his ear. "But only if you let me treat you this time."
