Chapter 2

Brushing Strokes of Affection

The café was a cozy nook of worn leather sofas and tarnished brass, filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and buttery croissants. They found a table by the window overlooking the Seine, its waters sparkling under the sun's caress.

Unpacking the box, they revealed five beautifully framed artworks. Lorenzo praised each piece, his voice laced with passion as he spoke of the artists' techniques and inspirations. Cael listened intently, his gaze flickering between Lorenzo and the paintings.

"Your eyes...they light up when you talk about art," Cael remarked softly, his fingers tracing the gilded frame of a landscape painting.

Lorenzo leaned in, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "And yours...they hold an entire universe of emotion. It's what drew me to you that first day."

Cael blushed, looking down at his hands folded in his lap. "You remember?" he asked quietly.

"How could I forget? You were so passionate about that Mondrian print, arguing with the patron who dismissed it as mere squares." Lorenzo chuckled. "I knew then that you were something special."
