New Beginnings
Autumn leaves crunched underfoot as Lucy and Benjamin walked hand in hand through the park, their breaths misting in the cool air. Despite the chill, Lucy felt warmth within her, a sense of contentment she hadn't known was possible.
"What do you think about starting a new tradition?" Benjamin asked suddenly, looking down at her with a twinkle in his eye.
She raised an eyebrow. "What kind of tradition?"
He grinned mischievously. "I was thinking... every year, on this day, we come here, find a new place to carve our initials."
Lucy laughed, squeezing his hand. "You want to mark the trees? Isn't that kind of... permanent?"
Benjamin shrugged. "Isn't that the point? A symbol of something that lasts."
Her heart skipped a beat at the implication. "You really think this is going to last?" she asked softly.
He stopped walking, turning to face her fully. "I know it is," he said firmly. Then, softer, "Do you?"
She looked into his eyes, seeing her own feelings reflected back at her. Love, determination, hope. "I do," she whispered.
He kissed her then, slow and sweet, their promises mingling on the cool autumn air. When they pulled away, Lucy smiled, tucking herself against his side. "Let's find a tree," she said, her voice filled with newfound confidence.
