Neon Shadows
In a cyberpunk future where memories are currency, a street hacker stumbles upon a conspiracy that could shatter the digital world order.
The rain was the only thing that felt real anymore.
Zero sat in the corner booth of The Rusty Valve, watching the droplets race down the grimy window like liquid silver. Outside, the neon glow of MegaCorp Tower One painted the streets in shades of electric blue and toxic green.
His neural interface pinged. A message.
"Meet me at the bridge. Come alone. — Ghost"
Ghost. The name sent a chill down his spine. The most legendary data-thief in the Net, dead for three years. Or so everyone thought.
Zero finished his synth-beer and stood, his worn leather jacket creaking as he moved. The chip in his pocket felt heavy—a memory engram he had lifted from a corporate courier an hour ago. He hadn't looked at it yet. Some things were better left unknown.
But curiosity was a drug, and Zero was an addict.
He jacked into the chip as he walked, letting the memory flood his senses.
Suddenly he was standing in a boardroom. A dozen executives in expensive suits sat around a polished table. At the head sat a man whose face was obscured by a shimmer of anti-surveillance tech.
"The Net is a garden," the obscured figure said. "And gardens need pruning. Project Clean Slate begins in seventy-two hours. Every ghost, every free-thinker, every data-trader—deleted. The Grid will be ours."
The memory ended, leaving Zero gasping on the rain-soaked street.
Three days. He had three days to stop them.
