Privacy Features Guide: Take Full Control of Your Social Experience

In an era where digital privacy is more important than ever, we've built a comprehensive suite of privacy controls that put you in the driver's seat. Whether you want to lock down your profile, disappear completely, or simply fine-tune your notification preferences, these seven features give you granular control over every aspect of your social experience.

1. Private Account

Control who can see your content.

When you enable Private Account, only people you explicitly approve can see your posts, profile, and activity. Existing followers won't be affected — they'll retain access. New users who want to follow you will need to send a follow request, which you can approve or deny.

Use it when: You want a curated audience and don't want your content visible to the public.

2. Show Online Status

Decide whether others can see when you're active.

The Show Online Status toggle lets you control your visibility to others. When enabled, your connections can see a green indicator when you're actively using the platform. When disabled, your online status is hidden from everyone.

Use it when: You want to browse without signaling your availability to others.

3. Disable Personalized Feed

Stop algorithmic curation. See posts in chronological order.

By default, your feed is personalized based on your activity — the posts you like, share, and engage with shape what you see. When you Disable Personalized Feed, we stop tracking your activity for feed curation purposes. Your timeline switches to a simple, chronological view showing the most recent posts from people you follow.

Use it when: You prefer raw chronology over algorithmic recommendations, or want to minimize data collection about your interests.

4. Disable Read Receipts

Prevent others from knowing when you've read their messages.

Read Receipts let message senders see when their messages have been delivered and read. When you disable this feature, read receipts are not sent — even when you've opened and read a message. The sender will only see that the message was delivered, not when (or if) you read it.

Use it when: You want to reply on your own schedule without social pressure.

5. Hide Notification Previews

Keep message contents off your lock screen.

When Hide Notification Previews is enabled, push notifications will still alert you to new activity, but the message content itself will not be displayed in the notification banner or your lock screen. You'll see something like "New message from [Name]" instead of the actual message text.

Use it when: You're in public spaces, sharing your device, or simply value your message privacy.

6. Ghost Mode

Become completely invisible.

Ghost Mode is our most powerful privacy feature. When activated, you appear offline to everyone — your online status, last seen indicator, typing indicators, and read receipts are all hidden. Even your heartbeat (the periodic signal that tells the system you're active) is suppressed, making it impossible for others to detect your presence.

Unlike simply toggling individual settings, Ghost Mode provides a comprehensive invisibility cloak in a single switch.

Use it when: You want to use the platform completely undetected, with zero visible footprint.

7. Appear in Search

Control whether others can find you via search.

The Appear in Search setting determines whether your profile shows up in user search results. When enabled (the default), anyone can find you by searching your username or display name. When disabled, your profile will not appear in any search results — though existing followers and people you've interacted with can still navigate to your profile directly.

Use it when: You want to be discoverable only through direct connections, not through search.
